Gene noticed he was feeling less stable after an injury. He knew that after an initial fall, he was at higher risk of falling again, so he reached out to see what was available through the Area Agency on Aging’s network of community partners. He began participating in a Matter of Balance course at his local senior center, and even convinced his friends to come along. Not only does the Matter of Balance course help him feel balanced and stronger, but it gave him more confidence in his daily routines, not to mention some time with his friends. Gene is no longer fearful of falls, as he has found a way to ensure he stays healthy and active for years to come.

One effective way to ensure you are guarding yourself from falls is by participating in A Matter of Balance course or other community programs focused on Psycho-Educational or an exercise program designed to assist with balance. These programs are proven to reduce the risk of falls. The AAAPP offers A Matter of Balance through different venues throughout Pasco and Pinellas Counties. Additionally, the AAAPP contracts with the YMCA of the Suncoast to provide Enhanced Fitness, an evidenced based exercise course offered throughout both Pasco and Pinellas counties.
