My Favorite Older Person Essay Contest

Annually, the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, Inc. holds an essay contest in Pasco and Pinellas counties for 5th grade children who write about their favorite living senior who has impacted their life.

Working with the School Districts in each county, the AAAPP promotes this contest throughout the area elementary schools as a way to encourage students and their teachers and administrators to acknowledge positive older role models, celebrate intergenerational relationships and of course, demonstrate good writing skills on the part of students.

Essays are judged by a panel of professionals and savings bonds are awarded to the winners of the top three essays in each county. The older persons about whom were written also receive a plaque and public recognition during the awards ceremonies held in May during Older Americans Month.
