Communities for a Lifetime

Since 2000, cities, towns and counties across Florida have committed to a Department of Elder Affairs' Statewide Initiative to create better places for older adults to live by providing all residents with the opportunity to achieve their full potential and contribute to the betterment of their communities. This Initiative values individuals of all ages and engages communities in a process of continuous self-assessment and improvement.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Resource

The September/October newsletter of the National Association of State Units on Aging (NASUA) reports that as part of the "Community Living Initiative, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed a guidebook titled Growing Smarter, Living Healthier: A Guide to Smart Growth and Active Aging. The consumer guidebook addresses housing, transportation, staying active and healthy by utilizing and developing sustainable community resources. This guidebook is intended for older adults who are interested in how our communities work and how they might help them become more ?agefriendly.? The report is available for download and use by state and local agencies." For more information go to http://www.epa.gov/aging/
