Transportation Options for Seniors In Pinellas County, FloridaNeighborly Senior Services Transportation Services Provides specialized transportation services for individuals age 60 or older who are residents of Pinellas County and have no other viable means of transportation available to them. Clients must register by telephone prior to scheduling service. Provides transportation to nutrition sites and adult day care centers. Individuals can get door-to-door transportation to medical appointments that are within 10 miles of their home with pickups between 9 AM and 2:30 PM only. Seven days advanced scheduling is required. Services are based on the availability of funds. Cost depends on funding source. Contributions are accepted. Group transportation is available from set locations to shopping centers. Advance notice: 7 days, Pick up, M-Fri 9a.m.-2p.m. Other days can be arranged-service fee basis. Area served: Pinellas County based on availability of funding. Medical trips within a ten-mile radius of pickup. Eligibility and fees: No fee for age 60 and up and/or transportation disadvantaged. Other criteria are determined by specific contracts with outside agencies and groups. Donations are encouraged for grant-funded trips. Special trip fees are determined on a case-by-case basis. Transportation Disadvantaged through MPO State-funded provides transportation through the MPO. Pinellas individuals must qualify as "transportation disadvantaged." Service for: medical, employment, grocery, banking, and education related to employment. Advance notice: 48-hours required. Days and hours: Paratransit provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Area served: Demand response in Pinellas County provided by taxi sedans/minivans. Wheelchair equipped vans are provided for the handicapped. Eligibility and fees: Income must not exceed $1,400 per month (subject to change) for one. Must have no transportation, including family and friends. $3 fare (for a one-way trip)due in cash at the time of the ride. BUS service: Eligible individuals can receive a 31-day unlimited bus pass (GO CARD). The cost is $4.20 a month for transportation, anywhere a PSTA bus can take them. American Cancer Society Provides transportation for chemotherapy and radiation patients only. Pain mediation assistance, transportation to chemotherapy and radiation appointments, financial assistance, Look Good, Feel Better Programs, reach to recovery support for women facing breast surgery, educational sessions, free wigs, bras & prostheses. Fee: None Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) Seniors (65 and over) can save 50% or more, with a Senior Special Citizen Photo ID, on the cash fare or use a reduced fare Daily or 31-Day Unlimited Ride GO Card. Any PAST bus terminal or select ticket outlets.Call the PSTA InfoLine seven days a week and most holidays for route and schedule information. Ask about learning how to use the bus (Show me Service). Days and hours: 5a.m to midnight, 7 days a week. www.psta.net Web site has bus routes and information. Demand Response DIAL-A- RIDE Transit (DART) Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) offers this specialized transportation for qualified disabled passengers, unable to use regular bus service. Application & reservations required. Call the information number to request an application. Days and Hours: Vary. Faith In Action Upper Pinellas (formerly Upper Pinellas Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers) Transportation to medical and grocery by volunteers who are part of a faith-based organization. (Note: more volunteers are needed. For more information and an online application for volunteers, visit the Faith In Action Upper Pinellas web site, www.fiaup.org.) Open: 9a.m. to 4p.m. Mon. - Fri. First you have to get registered for the program. This is an in-home assessment by appointment, and generally there is a long wait for this initial appointment. After you are accepted and registered, you must give a five day notice. Hospitals The following hospitals offer free transportation for outpatient appointments at their facilities. Wheelchair Transportation Service Advance notice: One hour Taxi Cabs St. Pete Taxi Yellow Cab Individual account with $200 deposit for those who prefer being billed. Billing begins 30 days after initial service. Look in phone book for other taxi services and call for rates. Also check limousine services, air port shuttles, etc. GEMS Gulfport GEMS is door-to-door transportation. 2 programs: annual subscribers and pay as you go. Advance notice: Registration and appointments are necessary. Call for additional details. VIP Wheelchair Transport, Inc. Medicaid, Private pay, Workers comp., Hospice, Vocational rehab and Transportation disadvantaged. (Medical provider - Evercare) Hours: M-Fri. 6am - 6pm Sat. 6am - 5 pm, Other trips by Appointment. Escorted Transportation and Related Services:Ageless Placements, Inc. Escorts to and from appointments, shopping, and errands. Days and hours: 9am to 4:30 pm, M-Fri, however 24 hr. answering service. Bayshore Health & Homemaker Services, Inc. Transportation, errands, companionship. Cases can be assessed and supervised by a Nurse, but this may not be needed for simple transportation services. Advance notice: Apply by phone Caregivers for Seniors, Inc. Provides transportation to appointments, grocery shopping, errands. Area Served: Pinellas County. Home Health Works Companion/homemaker and Home Health Aide. If evaluation is needed, there is a $65.00 charge. Supervised transportation and a Companion to grocery, shopping, and doctor. Area served: Pinellas and Pasco Counties. Seniors on the Go This is a private pay service. Services include driving seniors to and from doctor appointments., same day surgery, shopping, the mall and visits. All drivers' records checked every 6 months. Serving Pinellas county, no further south than Central Avenue. No wheelchair service. Must be ambulatory. Provides grocery shopping, Rx drop-off and pick-up, errands, escort to doctor. Your Man Friday Transportation to doctor, hospital, clinics, the bank, shopping and errands. Round trips to Tampa. Books three months ahead, occasionally can work in individual situation. General area, South Pinellas. Door to door pick up, stay with client during trip. Fee: Local round trip $15.00 hour, round trip to Tampa, $50.00 for first two hours each additional hour, is $15.00 Daughter on Call Transportation and an escort for the senior. Provides transportation to grocery store, shopping, restaurants and other. Area Served: Pinellas County.
