Leadership Pinellas - Falls and Seniors Public Education Project

The Leadership Pinellas Class of 2003/2004 has chosen to focus on preventing falls for seniors as its class project. The "Falls and Seniors Public Education Program" is providing education so that the community will better understand the serious impact that falls have on seniors and specific ways that falls can be prevented. According to the web site, "Senior falls effect everyone, the individual who falls, the healthcare system and maybe most of all caregivers who may face lengthy periods of post fall care support."

The project has a website (www.seniorpinellas.com) that includes information on fall prevention as well as articles on the causes of falls and risk factors for hip fractures. The project also produced a 29 minute television show on fall prevention which can be viewed on the website.
