About UsOverviewIn 2006 in Pinellas County there were more than 14,000 calls made to the emergency 911 system due to falls. Many of these falls resulted in hip fractures, other injuries, and sometimes death. In recognition of this serious health issue, a group of interested agencies, government representatives and businesses that serve seniors formed the Pinellas County Fall Prevention Coalition in 2006. The Coalition's goal is to prevent falls among older adults in our community. Members of this volunteer, grass roots coalition are involved with education, home inspections, media, legislative advocacy, research, and much more. The Coalition is dedicated to building a community where older adults can live to their full potential. While falls are a threat to the health and independence of older adults and can significantly limit their ability to remain self-sufficient, the opportunity to reduce falls among older adults has never been better. Today, there are proven interventions that can reduce falls and help older adults live better, and longer. The Coalition offers:
The coalition welcomes individuals and organizations interested in preventing seniors from falling.
